We created the focal point of the room to be the grand fireplace by adding a mirror above the mantle (approx. $130 @ Homesense) which opens up the space and allows the sun to reflect from the sliding door to brighten up the entire room.
We exploited sentimental pieces such as the artwork above the bookshelf - painted by the client herself!
We moved the futon couch from blocking the sliding doors to a space along the perpendicular wall which allowed for gazing into the fire, or watching television. (Note the body pillow on the coffee table for comfort!).
At the other end of the room there stood a beautiful, antique, telephone table which replaced the futon couch, but we allowed a space of over 2 feet between it and the sliding door for in-and-out traffic. A rocking chair can sway gently in the back corner of the room, beside a floor lamp and some beautiful greenery.
We transformed this home into one where the client is excited and proud to entertain friends.
